Strauch states the  twofold purpose of the book: to explain why elders’ meetings are vitally important, and to help elders improve the effectiveness of their meetings.  Contrary to common thinking, meetings do not have to be a drag, but should actually help elders become more effective in their ministry. Strauch has written a number of books on the subject of church officers, some of which have been reviewed in past issues of Equip. This particular book is helpful in that it gives practical counsel for leaders to implement. As usual he gives numerous Scriptural passages that support the biblical principles related to the role of elders.  He also encourages readers to memorize some of the more significant texts related to the subject. 

This book covers topics of character, relationships, mentoring, teamwork, and how to stay on track in ministry. As usual Strauch writes as a man with a deep heartfelt desire to see elders take seriously their responsibilities and lead the church forward to the glory of God.  Every elder should take the time to read this good book.
