We all influence people whether we recognize it or not. In
Becoming a Woman of Influence, Carol Kent asks, “What would happen if we
decided to influence people on purpose?” She challenges us to be more
intentional “not because we have to, but because we want to. Not because it is
our Christian obligation, but because it brings great meaning and joy to our
lives. Not because of duty, but because of love. Let’s be like Jesus.…Let’s
intentionally influence other women because it is a high calling and a part of
our predesigned purpose.”
This nine-week Bible study is for women who want to mentor
intentionally through lifetime or seasonal mentoring, friendship, or
encouragement. Rather than lay out step by step techniques, Kent observes Jesus’
example and builds on seven principles for making a lasting
difference in the lives of others: spending time alone with God, walking and
talking, storytelling, asking questions, demonstrating compassion, showing
unconditional love, and casting a vision.
Each lesson in the Bible study portion of the book guides
students through the assigned chapter and through scripture examining Jesus’
character in influencing, and assigns scripture memory work. Becoming a Woman
of Influence will help us get past our self-centeredness to see the
characteristics of influence Jesus has modeled for us.
