This short, concise book by Peter Jones, professor of New
Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary in California, is a response to
the current postmodern trend of Universalism. Jones covers all five points of
Monism by devoting a chapter to one point, and the next chapter to the biblical
response, alternating between “pagan lies” and “gospel truth.” The five lies are
“All Is One and One Is All,” “Humanity Is One,” “All Religions Are One,” “One
Problem: Amnesia,” and “One Escape, Look Within.” The last chapter in the book
is titled “Pagan Lies and You.” It states that there is no neutral ground, and
challenges the reader to make a decision, if he hasn’t already. This book
should be considered an 89-page synopsis of what postmodern America is facing,
and the truths to counteract those lies—a good book to give a friend who is
really searching for the truth.
