This study manual is a
biblical guide to dealing with personal conflict. It is related to The
Peacemaker, by Ken Sande, which has been mentioned on several occasions in
Equip. The title is an obvious reference to the Christian’s role and
responsibility to be a peacemaker. “Peacemaker” is one of the descriptive terms
used of Kingdom people in the beatitudes within the Sermon on the Mount.
Christians are called by God to live in unity and harmony, but because we are
not yet perfect, we need help in developing that characteristic in our lives.
Corlette Sande has developed a curriculum for children
and young people around the biblical concept of peacemaking. This is an
attractive manual with twelve supporting booklets designed to teach children how
to be peacemakers through understanding: conflict, confession of sins,
forgiveness, communication and other topics. There are work sheets, role plays,
and even a section on conflict with parents.
The author writes from four
basic premises: (1)God’s Word: it is totally reliable and amazingly practical,
(2) Conflict is not necessarily wrong or destructive, (3) Many conflicts are
caused by and aggravated by sin, and (4) The most important skills of a
peacemaker are repentance, confession, and forgiveness. Our covenant children
desire to be taught these biblical truths. The author designed the study to
involve parents as well as other teachers. It can be used in a variety of ways:
as a Christian school curriculum, a Sunday school study, a children’s Sunday
night or weekday program, or as a family devotional.
