For the Love of God, provides 365 days of good, solid devotional materials by one of evangelicalism’s most able writers.  I appreciate Carson’s scholarship and Christian witness.  As a student of the Word and the world, one who understands the developments of contemporary thought (as he demonstrates in his other writings such as The Gagging Of God), Carson has given us a wealth of sound biblical content as food for thought and life application.  This devotional is based on Robert Murray M’Cheyne’s Bible-reading schedule which takes you through the New Testament and the Psalms twice and the Old Testament once in a year.  The value of Carson’s book lies not only in his devotional comments, but in the fact that it encourages readers to read the Bible.

No one will grow or progress in the Christian life without taking time daily to feed upon the Word of God.  Carson’s plan will help keep us on course and will help counteract the decrease in Biblical knowledge in the Western world, particularly among the rising generations. In the introduction, Carson explains the reading program and the reason he chose this avenue. He mainly desires for God’s people to read the Word.
